Hotel 17 New York Customer Reviews:

Excellent:

    “Clean, convenient and cheap”

We stayed at Hotel 17 for 3 days in December. We stayed at Hotel 31 a few times before, and thought we would give Hotel 17 a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was surprisingly large (we got a room with a twin bed and a double, shared washroom), clean and very close to the subway. On our last night, we asked whether it was difficult to grab a cab early in the morning to the airport, and the concierge booked a car for us that was nice, comparable to the price of a taxi, and showed up early. Overall, we had a very good stay at Hotel 17 and highly recommend it if you want a great place to stay for cheap!

    “Still Great Value in NYC”

Having just spent a night here after a gap of 30 months since the last stay, I am pleased to report that Hotel 17 is still great value for it's location. As well as value, the service is friendly, the rooms are clean and internet is now free (get a room on the 2nd floor if you need wireless access from your room). Don't be put off by the shared bathrooms - the condition of them is fine, they are well cleaned, and we never needed to wait to take a shower. Manhattan is not a cheap place to sleep - Hotel 17 continues to provide a good value choice so you can save the dollars for some good food and shopping !

“So cute, so affordable, great location!”

We were only in NY for two nights but staying here made it very comfortable. The staff was friendly, the rooms were CRAZY clean (the mattresses are brand new and wrapped in special plastic), the location is great -near Union Square so easy to get everywhere in NYC via the subways. Delis, pizza places, restaurants, and a liquor store all right around the corner. I will absolutely stay here again!

      “Very Awful!”

I was really shocked by how terrible this hotel was. It is small, dark and dingy and looks as though it hasn't been refurbished for a good fifty years. The corridors were very narrow and the bathrooms were tiny and badly lit. The rooms themselves smelt musty and the air conditioning units were so loud we had to use ear plugs to sleep.

Although it is billed as being right on top of all the restaurants and bars of St Marks Place, it is easily a ten minute walk to get anywhere, even if you're a fast walker!

And to make matters worse, it wasn't even cheap. I could have stayed in a youth hostel, paid less, had a much nicer room and much friendlier service!

      “an ashtray hotel”

Immediately when we entered we noticed the smell of cigarettes. In every hallway there are many ashtrays, inviting people to smoke. I'm not fussy, but find it very strange that no one else would notice this horrible smell.

When we asked for another room because of the noise, the staff member would sigh and sigh until he finally said: well ok, but the other room will probably be just as bad.

Say what???? Cheap yes, neigbourhood fine, recommendable no.
