“Perfect for everyone!”

My husband and I were traveling to NYC for a fun Christmas trip and were looking for a unique New York experience on a budget. Thankfully we found the Gershwin because we loved it! The hotel looks like the pictures although the room we stayed in was pretty basic with hardwood floors, a queen bed, nice view, TV, small closet, desk, side chair and table, dresser, and 2 nightstands. The room was larger than I expected for NYC and the bed was comfortable. We weren't coming to NYC to sit in our room and watch TV all day so it suited us perfectly.
“"11 out of 10 across the board"”

The hotel was 11 out of 10 across the board. The over all decorum of the hotel, the staff, the room, and most of all the art was top notch and pure class. Every floor had a different artist profiled and they change the lobby pieces monthly. It is my pleasure to recommend this hotel for fans of life, love and art when staying in New York. Bravo to the new coffee shop in the lobby called BIRCH, they just opened and you would think they were open for years it was so well run and tasty. All in all the Gershwin was 11 out of 10! Cheers, Michael M :)
“best hotel ever”

Very impressed with the staff. they were extremely helpful. my friend really wanted a smoking room and when we checked in they didn't have any other ones available but the next day they were great with helping her get the exact room she wanted. also when i left my sunglasses in my room when i checked out one of the housekeepers brought them down to the lobby for me, which was actually very surprising. i thought this hotel was great for young people and first time travelers. i thought the rooms were very big for a new york hotel. the location is great and i always felt safe in the neighborhood which was a big concern for me. i feel the only thing the rooms could use here is a minifridge and a microwave...we had a lot of leftovers and it could have helped us save money if we could eat those in our room. but i would definitely recommend this hotel and when i come back to the city i hope to stay there again.

“don't ever stay here”

We went to our room only to discover that the keys did not work. We went back to the front desk where they re-keyed us (never mentioning that anything was amiss, mind you) and we went back up to our room to try the keys again. Again, neither one worked.
Then, we heard voices and a TV from inside the room. We knocked on the door and two very nice and puzzled strangers opened it, saying they had checked in earlier to an empty room. In other words, our luggage (which had been partially unpacked) was not there. Not only did they remove our belongings without our knowledge or permission, they didn't even have the courtesy to tell us what had happened -- even after we went to the desk to tell them our keys weren't working! When they re-keyed our room, they did so for the "upgraded" room, not the original one, and yet didn't bother, even then, to tell us they had moved us. Are these people nuts?

For the same price there are plenty other hotels around that offer much better value for money.
