Hotel Mela Customer Reviews:

Excellent:

    “Simply amazing with incredible staff!!”

My fiance, myself and a friend of ours stayed at this hotel from december 30 - January 5 right through the New year holiday. I couldn't be more impressed with the service from the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel. Last year we stayed at a high end, big name hotel and they don't compare to this place. There was the most tasteful hot chocolate in the lobby...ALL hours of the day along with fresh apples for you to eat at your leisure. The staff was incredible. Everyone spoke as soon as you walked in, and made sure your trip was going well and if you have any problems to contact them. Mr. John Paul assisted us with every whim. He booked tickets for us and googled clubs for us to go to for new years. I am so pleased with this hotel I will never stay ANYWHERE else. I just can't say enough about the friendliness of the staff. The location was awesome! A very short walk to times square and there was a deli just doors down from the hotel with a full hot bar as well as deli sandwiches and drinks. How convenient! Also the hotel has 3 or maybe 4 restaurants on the same street so we didn't have to search far for food! The room we stayed in had two twin beds and it came with a full mini bar and a basket of goodies just in case you needed anything else. Also, there were terry cloth robes for an added extra. I also had left money and a very expensive lap top on the table in the room a couple of times and being in new york I was a little concerned however, each time I came back to find that nothing had been touched or mistreated. Thank you hotel Mela for a wonderful stay!!!

I am a frequent traveler to NY and have stayed at the Hotel Mela several times over the last year. Great location. Great staff and management. Brand new rooms and great baths. The standard rooms are small (consistent with NY standards). Upgrade to the Executive rooms which are a very comfortable size (those who don't think so are not familiar with hotel rooms in NY) and extremely well-appointed. I was born and raised in NY and travel back often and have tried both big and boutique hotels around town. This is far and away the best value for the money in the theatre district. My last trip was a five-night theatre vacation right before Christmas. When the snow storm hit, management was able to extend my reservation at the last minute for the same great rate and find accommodations for my sister and her kids. Steps from the theatres and great restaurants but far enough away from the crowds to actually be quiet. Really, who could ask for anything more?

We got a great deal on 1800hotels.com for the weekend before Christmas. The hotel met all our expectations. The rooms were clean, quiet and comfortable. They were small, but I didn't expect a large room in NYC. The staff was very friendly and held our bags for us for free when we checked out, but had several hours until our flight home. We will stay here again on our next trip to NYC.

It was only after I checked in that I realized how truly tiny the rooms are and wondered how this hotel receives three stars.

Notice that virtually everyone gives them a 5 star - that's insane - not even the Four Seasons gets that many perfect scores.

Do you understand what I am saying?

    “Terrible Hotel”

Thought to be a 4 star hotel...which it simply is not. The rooms are incredibly small, bordering on Lilliputian. You simply can't be in your room with your luggage at the same time; I ended putting my luggage and my wife's on the floor and then leaped over it to the enter bathroom. The view to a crackly wall was edging on the depressing, borderline suicidal.
